FAQs
Got questions? Of course you do.
Here are a few things you might want to know before getting started.
Finding a therapist
-
You'll answer a short questionnaire about what you're looking for, what you'd like help with and the kind of therapist you think you'd feel comfortable talking to. A real therapist will review your answers and personally choose three therapists we think could be a good fit.
-
No. Your matches are chosen by a real therapist. We consider things like experience and specialisms, but also how our therapists actually work and what you've told us matters to you.
-
No. It's free to complete the questionnaire, receive your three matches and have a 15-minute introduction with them.
-
Absolutely. You can have a free 15-minute introduction with one, two or all three. It's about finding the person who feels right to you.
-
That's OK. Tell us and we'll find you three more. Matching isn't an exact science and sometimes you need to meet someone to know whether you click.
-
Therapy can take a little time to settle. Six sessions gives you and your therapist a proper chance to get to know each other and explore what you want from therapy, without signing up indefinitely. After that, you can finish, continue, change frequency or take a break.
-
Our therapists set their own session fees, so prices vary. You'll always see what a therapist charges before deciding whether to book with them.
-
Yes. Therapists go through an application and verification process before joining The Right Therapist, including checks of their professional registration, qualifications and insurance. We also speak to them so we can understand how they actually work — which helps us make better matches.
-
For now, therapy through The Right Therapist is online, so you can meet your therapist from somewhere private and comfortable that works for you.
-
The Right Therapist isn't an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. For urgent mental health support, contact NHS 111 and select the mental health option.

Joining as a therapist
-
We're looking for qualified, professionally registered therapists who are insured, appropriately supervised and able to practise online from a confidential space. You'll complete a short application and we'll have a chat before you join.
-
There's no joining fee or monthly subscription. We take 20% when you have a paid session with a client, so you keep 80% of your session fee.
-
Yes. It's your practice and you decide what you charge.
-
No. You decide when you're available and how many clients you'd like to take on. If your diary is full, you can stop accepting new matches.
-
No. Matching works both ways. You remain responsible for deciding whether a client is appropriate for your practice and whether you have the capacity to work with them.
-
This is why we want to know more about you than what's usually written on a therapist profile. We'll consider your experience and areas of competence, but also your therapeutic style, personality and how you tend to work in the room.
-
Yes. Clients can have a free 15-minute introduction with their matches before deciding who they'd like to work with. It's a brief opportunity for both of you to get a feel for whether working together might be right.
-
Sessions are online. You'll need an appropriate private and confidential space to work from.
-
No. Therapists work independently through the platform and remain responsible for their own professional practice, including their clinical records, supervision, insurance and professional obligations.
-
We handle the client matching process and payments and help clients find you. You remain in control of the therapy itself, your availability and how you practise.
-
You and the client can decide what feels appropriate from there. They might finish, continue weekly, move to fortnightly sessions or take a break.
-
Complete our therapist application and tell us a little about your experience and how you work. We'll verify your professional information and arrange a chat so we can get to know you properly.
